Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (FMWA)

Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development was created in response to The United Nations agreement to establish Institutional Mechanisms for the advancement of Women and Women matters. It is a product of efforts established through a Decree in 1989 giving rise to the National Commission for Women.

Federal Ministry of Works and Housing

The Mandate of the Ministry is primarily to formulate and implement the policies, programmes and projects of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) with respect to Road Transport, Highways construction and rehabilitation; Highways planning and design; monitoring and maintenance of federal roads & bridges, nationwide; Provision of infrastructure as well as Survey & mapping of the nation’s internal and international boundaries (Works); and Habitat and affordable housing for Nigerians (Housing).

Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports

The Ministry is the outcome of the merger of the defunct Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) by the proclamation of His Excellency, Mr. President on the restructuring of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government on 11th November, 2016.

Federal Minsitry of Education

  • Formulate and co-ordinate a national policy on education;
  • Collect and collate data for purposes of education Planning and Financing;
  • Prescribe and maintain uniform standard of education throughout the Country;
  • Control and monitor the quality of education in the Country;
  • Harmonize educational policies and procedures of all the States of the Federation through the instrumentality of the National Council on Education (NCE);
  • Effect co-operation in educational matters on an international scale; and
  • Develop curricula and syllabuses at the National Level.

Federal Republic of Nigeria

 The name Nigeria was taken from the Niger River running through the country. This name was allegedly coined in the late 19th century by British journalist Flora Shaw, who later married Baron Frederick Lugard, a British colonial administrator. The origin of the name Niger, which originally applied only to the middle reaches of the Niger River, is uncertain. The word is likely an alteration of the Tuareg name egerew n-igerewen used by inhabitants along the middle reaches of the river around Timbuktu prior to 19th-century European colonialism.

Government of Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom State was created on the 23rd of September 1987 by the then Military Administration of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.  The creation of the State brought to fruition years of prolonged struggle by the people that occupied the mainland part of the former Cross River State.

Government of Anambra State

The area today, known as Anambra State was created on August 27, 1991, along with eight other states of Nigeria by the then Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida GCFR. The state derives its name from Anambra River, which is a colonial convenient pronunciation of Omambala River. The River Anambra is a tributary of the majestic River Niger.
